Barratt Homes has lodged a proposal of application notice for the potential development, which has been approved by South Ayrshire Council.

The vacant 8.5-hectare brownfield site sits near a mineral railway, East Park Road and Lochside Road.

Work on the development would include land remediation, access for cars and pedestrians, landscaping, infrastructure and open space.

Barratt intends to consult with Newton and Heathfield and North Ayr community councils as well as hold an online public event.

A full planning application will be submitted to the council following the public consultation.
