  • Council delivers new kitchens and bathrooms for Perth residents

Hundreds of tenants have had new kitchens and bathrooms fitted in their homes thanks to a multi-million pound Perth & Kinross Council improvements programme.

The final phase of a kitchen and bathroom upgrade scheme began in August 2016 and was completed this month by CCG Asset Management.

To mark the end of the roll-out, housing and communities convener Councillor Peter Barrett met North Muirton tenant Michelle Addison, who showed him around her new kitchen.



This was the final phase of an overall upgrade programme which saw around £34 million spent on replacing bathrooms and £25m invested in new kitchens in thousands of council homes across Perth and Kinross.

Work on the final phase, which saw around 400 homes upgraded, included £2.4m on replacing bathrooms and £1.5m on kitchens.

 



  • O’Mac Construction delivers new Isle of Lewis school extension

O’Mac Construction has delivered a new £1.9 million development project at a school on the Isle of Lewis.

Laxdale Primary School was upgraded with a new extension featuring two new pre-school playrooms, a gym and assembly hall, a new canteen and dining area and external improvement works.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar led the project and officially opened the facility on Wednesday 20 March.



 

  • Planners back Aberdeen flats proposals

Plans have been approved to create 13 flats on a busy Aberdeen street.

Diva Property Investments lodged an application to alter the upper floors of 1 to 9 King Street and convert them into flats.



In their report, planners said the buildings have already been “significantly altered” through the addition of “unsympathetic” partition walls, suspended ceilings and stairwell extensions.

They added: “The conversion of the upper floors to their original residential use is welcomed.

“The proposed works have all been designed with due consideration for their special architectural and historic interest, with non-original elements removed and original detailing retained and revealed where possible.”

 



  • Greenock road reopens following £3m works

A £3 million realignment scheme has been completed on Bakers Street in Greenock.

The road has since reopened to traffic, delivering improved road safety and industrial regeneration to the area.

Bakers Street was realigned between Ingleston Street and Drumfrochar Road to remove a dangerous bend. Buildings at the east end of Drumfrochar Road were also demolished to make way for the new stretch of road.



The traffic lights at the junction of Baker Street and Ingleston Street have also been improved with revised signal timings. Kerbs have been lowered and a major programme of tree planting and landscaping is underway.

 

  • McDonald’s plans to open its first Fraserburgh restaurant

Fast food giant McDonald’s has announced plans to open its first restaurant in Fraserburgh.



The burger chain has lodged proposals for a new establishment on Watermill Road.

The company’s latest drive-thru would be located next to the town’s Asda supermarket.

Three separate applications for the project have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council by Planware Ltd, on behalf of McDonald’s.

 



  • Investigation works progress on Aberdeen’s Merchant Quarter

Investigation works are progressing to confirm the feasibility of flood alleviation proposals for Aberdeen’s Merchant Quarter.

Following work in February and March, Scottish Water and its Alliance Partner amey-Black & Veatch (aBV) will carry out localised ground investigation work from Saturday 30 March.

A lane closure will be in place on Trinity Quay, westbound, for up to two weeks, coinciding with the school Easter holiday period.

A further week of work will then take place from 14 April, during which Shore Brae will be closed to traffic.
