Advocate’s Close in Edinburgh and the Glasgow School of Art are among the five projects from Scotland which will compete for one of the construction industry’s most prestigious accolades.

The RICS Awards Grand Final will take place on the 16th October and showcase the achievements of the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.

Projects at 50 George Square, Edinburgh, The Lasswade Centre in Midlothian and Clyde Gateway Infrastructure in Glasgow join the impressive shortlist.

The finalists are category winners which have fought off tough regional competition to be pitted against national peers in the hope of winning the overall award in the categories of Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Design through Innovation, Infrastructure and Regeneration.

  • Building Conservation – 50 George Square, Edinburgh
  • Community Benefit – The Lasswade Centre

  • Design through Innovation – Glasgow School of Art
  • Infrastructure – Clyde Gateway Infrastructure, Glasgow
  • Regeneration – Advocate’s Close, Edinburgh

  • All shortlisted projects are also in the running for the highest accolade, the RICS Project of the Year award, won last year by Penarth Pier, a fully restored Art Deco Pier Pavilion, refurbished by R&M Williams for Penarth Arts and Crafts Ltd.

The nominations in each category span a range of companies and projects, from small schemes delivered through individual vision to globally recognised developments delivered to significant budgets.

Sarah Speirs, director, RICS Scotland, said: “There’s stiff competition this year from across the UK. The impressive calibre of all the entries, particularly in Scotland, highlights the high standard of all projects involved. It is great to see such enthusiasm in all of the categories and the impact this has had on our built environment. The judges have a very tough decision ahead of them and I wish all entrants the best of luck.”

This year’s Grand Final will take place at The Dorchester Hotel, London and will be hosted by well-known broadcaster and journalist, Sian Williams.
