The driving force behind a range of community-based developments across the north of Scotland has been shortlisted for a prestigious property award.

hub North Scotland has been named as a finalist in the Scottish Property Company of the Year award at the upcoming Scottish Property Awards 2016.

The organisation will face competition from four other finalists for the top award at the event which is widely regarded as the country’s national celebration for commercial property.

The Scottish Property Company of the Year nod follows hub’s previously announced nomination in the Community Development Project of the Year category in recognition of its delivery of the Alford Community Campus for Aberdeenshire Council.

The new £37 million development on the village’s Greystone Road has been designed to replace the existing Alford Primary School and Alford Academy. Work began in June last year and it opened to pupils this autumn. Main contractor for the build was Morrison Construction, part of Galliford Try plc.

Chief executive Angus Macfarlane said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for what is the top prize at the upcoming Scottish Property Awards, with the nomination testament to the hard work and efforts that the hub North team has shown throughout what has been a busy and ultimately fruitful 2015 for the organisation.

“At the heart of the hub model are the communities that our facilities will serve for generations to come and we’re proud of what we have created across the country since our inception. Our nomination in the Community Development Project of the Year category for our delivery of the Alford Community Campus was fantastic, but this further recognition is certainly the icing on the cake.”

The Scottish Property Awards were launched in 2014 to showcase the nation’s best commercial property achievements, with categories incorporating everything from design and planning through to investment deals and funding.

hub North Scotland is the delivery partner for a number of major projects in the education sphere including the Wick Community Campus, Brimmond School in Aberdeen and Inverness Royal Academy. The organisation is also delivering the new £55.75m Anderson High School and halls of residence in Shetland, with work now underway after financial close on the project was reached.
