Penicuik housing approval ends four year section 75 saga

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has been granted permission from Midlothian Council to build 458 new homes in Penicuik, four years after submitting its original planning application.

The development of 422 new homes and 36 apartments at Greenlaw Mill, will deliver a wide mix of two-, three-, four and five bedroom family homes and apartments, 23 of which will be for affordable housing.

Planning approval was originally received in February 2013, however, the local authority and the developer could not reach agreement over the latter’s contributions to the local infrastructure, economy and affordable housing supply, otherwise referred to as section 75 agreements.



Under the agreement, Wimpey will commit £7 million to the community, including funding a £4.3m upgrade of the Mauricewood Road/A702 T-junction creating a roundabout that will be able to withstand the increased volumes of traffic from both ‘Greenlaw Mill’ and any other new housing developments.

Also as part of the package will be the contribution of funds to education and the wider community along with further enhancements to Mauricewood Road; signalisation of the A701 junction and formation of a new footpath to connect the A702 and A701.
