Robertson lined up to deliver Dundee community facilities

New community facilities for a Dundee neighbourhood could be on the cards if councillors approve a £3 million project.

The community extension at Mill O’Mains Primary School will offer out of hours access to facilities including a refurbished gym hall, stage and changing facilities.

Steven Rome, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “I am delighted to see these works coming forward to committee for approval.

“Many communities across the city have already benefitted from similar arrangements with the local primary or secondary school.

“This project extends the same opportunity to people in Mill O’Mains to access up to date facilities in their community and for us to bring forward planned improvements to the school building itself.”

Councillors will be asked to approve a bid from Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd as part of the Major Project framework, provided by Procurement Hub. Its nominated Scottish sub-contractor Robertson Construction Tayside Ltd will carry out the contract.

Work totalling £3,264,506 includes the building of a 380 square metre community extension with two linked multi-purpose rooms, alterations to form a new entrance and multi-purpose space, new toilets, out of hours access to the refurbish assembly/gym, stage and changing facilities.

For economies of scale the council has also included the upgrading works including kitchen/dining area, renewal of roof coverings to various areas, and renewal of boilers, ventilation plant and other services to the school.

If the city development committee approves the tender on Monday, work is expected to start this month and take around nine months to complete.

Meanwhile, more than £650,000 of work is also being considered on six primary schools across the city for new roofing, fire alarms and refurbished toilet facilities.

Dundee Contract Services is recommended to carry out work at Craigiebarns PS to re-roof the infants area, to refurbish the toilets at St Peter & Pauls PS and to replace hard wired fire alarms at Ancrum PS, Ardler PS, St Fergus PS and St Pius PS.
