Workshop has designs on sustainable construction future

Zero Waste Scotland is inviting small to medium sized businesses to find out how digital technology can help future-proof the construction industry.

Digital technology can now be found everywhere, from agriculture to retail. The construction industry could greatly benefit from cutting edge techniques, including augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence and apps, yet there has been slow uptake.

In collaboration with the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre and the Supply Chain Sustainability School, the free one-day seminar will highlight innovative ways to increase sustainability and efficiency using digital technology.

Digitising work practices could be the answer to resource shortages, high levels of waste and high carbon emissions. The event will focus on opportunities for BIM, VR, AI and robotics among other technologies.

Stephen Boyle, programme manager for construction, Zero Waste Scotland, said: “To transition to a low carbon economy, we must equip the construction industry with the latest tools and technology. Staying ahead of the curve will allow businesses within the construction industry to increase sustainability and efficiency.

“Whether you’re a small property developer or a product designer, this event will shine a light on the digital technology that can be used for your next building project.”

Businesses will also learn of the opportunities available to them and how Zero Waste Scotland, the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre and the Supply Chain Sustainability School can help access support and funding.

Lucy Black, head of business relationships at Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, added: “Digital technology and tools have the power to change the world in which we live like never before. They are at the heart of improving the process of designing, building and operating within the built environment.

“Focusing on those that can increase sustainability and efficiency, this seminar will highlight new opportunities for the growth of the construction sector.”

Using Digital Technology to Future Proof the Construction Industry’ will take place on November 21 from 10:00 – 16:00 at Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, Unit 3B, 3 Watt Place, Hamilton International Technology Park, G72 0AG.
