  • Changes afoot at Orkney Care and Repair

Mike Cooper has announced his retirement from Orkney Care and Repair following a successful and extensive career spanning over 30 years.

The service, which helps older people maintain their independence and quality of life at home, has been improving homes and lives in Orkney since 1988 with Mr Cooper an almost constant over that period.

However, this month sees Mike take his well-deserved retirement with Fraser Devine taking over the helm.



Fraser, who brings with him a wealth of experience leading teams, services and working with a wide variety of people and charities in Orkney and beyond, said he is excited to be joining the team.

The Care and Repair service is delivered by Orkney Housing Association, under contract from Orkney Islands Council.

Orkney Care and Repair offers the council’s ‘Scheme of assistance’ to private homeowners and tenants with advice, small repairs and adaptations to their property.

 



  • Housing association appoints local supported business to grounds maintenance contract

Ferguslie Park Housing Association (FPHA) has awarded a contract to carry out common grounds maintenance and grass cutting to tenant’s gardens.

Aspire Community Solutions is an award-winning supported business based in Paisley providing a variety of services in ground maintenance and construction.

The business is headed up by dynamic and inspiring young owner Jordan McPhail who set the company up when he was 16 years old. As part of its work, Aspire also delivers training and employability to people who have significant barriers to employment in Renfrewshire.



The work Aspire carries out in Ferguslie will not only include grass cutting but also include litter picking; shrub maintenance and other environmental services all year round.

 

  • NI contractor upgrades Montrose port

Northern Ireland-based contractor Farrans has upgraded a port on the east coast of Scotland.



The firm delivered the first section of Berth 7 & 8 reconstruction project in Montrose.

Despite harsh winter weather, the site team progressed the work successfully.

The berth was in full use just 10 minutes after the handover of the project.

Work will now move directly onto berth 7 where the next 90m of quay will be reconstructed.



The scheme is being completed on behalf of Montrose Port Authority.
