‘Design a Brighter Future’ comes to Glasgow

VELUX is rounding up this year’s ‘Design a brighter future’ breakfast event series at The Lighthouse in Glasgow on Wednesday 7 November 2018, 8am – 10am.

The core aims of this seminar are to discuss the impact of building design on pupil learningcommercial productivity and human well-being in healthcare.

VELUX’s vision is to unite architects, contractors, clients and policy-makers together to create human environments and indoor climates that maximise human well-being and performance in a sustainable and cost-effective way.



The format of this free event is a networking breakfast followed by three presentations from expert speakers and a panel discussion.

Speakers:

  • Richard Hobday - independent researcher and author on the impacts of sunlight and daylight on human health.

Richard will be presenting on Myopia and daylight in schools and discussing whether this is a neglected aspect of public health.



  • Laura Phillips - associate director at Arup

Laura is an associate director of lighting at Arup. She will be discussing daylight from an evolutionary perspective and exploring the benefits of modern lighting design.

  • Mark Ellson - director at Holmes Miller

Mark will be presenting his work in early years design and Holmes Miller’s approach to education projects.



The event is being supported by the GIA, CIAT, CIOB and the International WELL Building Institute. Attendees will gain an insight into how evidence-based research can positively influence design practice.

The event will champion raising standards in human environments across the UK and, ultimately, inform architectural and construction professionals of the importance of daylight, ventilation and research-driven building design.
