Morrison Construction has donated more than £1000 to charity Niemann-Pick UK after being inspired by the fundraising efforts of Inverness youngster Shona Beveridge.

Diagnosed with the neurodegenerative condition Niemann-Pick Type C, last November 17-year-old Shona took part in the Children in Need Ride to the Clyde Rickshaw Challenge from London to Glasgow raising more than £5 million.

Documented over the nine days on the BBC’s One Show, Shona and her fellow five riders covered 500 miles for the charity that has supported them.

Shona has continued her work for charity and was recently presented the cheque for Niemann-Pick UK from Morrison Construction.

Raised through an office bake sale and donations from the business the funds will go towards the charity that has supported Shona, her family and others living with the same disease.

Of her daughter’s recent accomplishments for charity, Morrison Construction environmental sustainability manager, Helen Beveridge, said: “I am proud of my daughter Shona, of her achievements and of the inspiration she generates with her positivity for life in spite of her disability.

“The people in Morrison Construction have been incredibly generous and my family are grateful for their support and fundraising for Niemann-Pick UK, a charity which helps us in many ways to cope with this rare and fatal disease.”
