Morrison Construction to give real-life experience to Glasgow Clyde College students

Glasgow Clyde College has announced a partnership with Morrison Construction that will see students participate in on-site work experience and receive advice from construction industry experts.

The college was selected as a preferred further education partner by Morrison Construction, who made a strategic decision to engage with a Glasgow college.

The link will entail sponsorship by Morrison Construction where the company will invite students to participate in visits to construction sites as well as work placements. In addition, they will supply personal protective equipment (PPE) for students, including high-visibility vests, hats, and gloves



Jim Johnstone, community skills manager for Morrison Construction, said: “We’re delighted to be entering into this partnership with Glasgow Clyde College. The partnership will see opportunities for students to work with Morrison Construction staff from curriculum engagement to work experience placements.

“We are entering this partnership with a forward-thinking and innovative college, which allows us to focus on our ultimate goal of training and up-skilling a talented workforce for the future, not only for Morrison Construction but for the construction-related industries as a whole.”

Glasgow Clyde MorrisonMorrison Construction will supply industry experts to deliver advice to college classes on specific areas of study, benefitting Glasgow Clyde College students enrolled on a range of construction-related courses, including construction management, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, brickwork, and electrical and plumbing.

David Innes, director of Engineering and Built Environment at Glasgow Clyde College, said: “The biggest benefit of the partnership with Morrison Construction to our students is the work placements of up to four weeks. They will undertake a timetabled programme and will be given real tasks to work on and receive advice and guidance from some of the most able members of the construction industry.”



The faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, which the construction department is part of, was ‘Highly Commended’ as Training Partner of the Year at the recent SEMTA awards.
