Prestonpans bank to be redeveloped as restaurant and flats

A former Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Prestonpans is set to be redeveloped as a restaurant and flats under plans submitted to East Lothian Council.

The proposals have been submitted by Ayres Wynd Developments and are now under consideration by the council planning committee, the East Lothian Courier reports.

The bank building is located on the corner of Ayres Wynd and High Street and has sat empty since the branch was closed in August 2016.

The application revives earlier proposals to transform the building into a ground floor restaurant with two three-bedroom flats above it.

The design and access statement states: “The principles of use of the site for restaurant and two apartments at the property are not in question, as it has already been granted permission. The current proposal looks to achieve a more site specific design in line with our client’s aspirations.

“We do not believe that the changes proposed will have a detrimental effect upon the surrounding properties and High Street. It is hoped that this proposal can be supported by the planning department as an example of the high quality modern architecture fit for the centre of Prestonpans.”
