RIBA president Alan Jones referred to Charity Commission over ‘serious incident’

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has contacted the Charity Commission over a “serious incident” in connection with the recent stepping down of the charity’s president Alan Jones.

Earlier this week, Mr Jones announced he needed to “take some time out” from the organisation, just six months after being elected to the role.

Jones emailed members of the RIBA Council to say “a matter had arisen” in his personal life and that he would hand the reins to honorary secretary Kerr Robertson for at least four to six months.

Now RIBA has reported the case to the Charity Commission by submitting a “serious incident report”, something that it must do if it suspects a serious incident has occurred.

In a statement, the Charity Commission confirmed: “The RIBA has acted in line with our guidance, by submitting a serious incident report to the commission in connection with the recent stepping down of the charity’s president.

“We are currently assessing information provided by the charity. We are unable to comment further at this time.”
