St Vincent Street office to return to original use as hotel

Councillors have approved plans to restore a B-listed empty office building in Glasgow city centre back to use as a 149-bed hotel.

Plans were submitted by Faulkner Browns Architects late last year to convert 250 St Vincent Street into Scotland’s first Meliá ‘Innside’ hotel, complete with a three-storey extension and a new bar/restaurant area.

The development will entail the demolition of a reinforced concrete ‘mansard’ roof to allow the addition of up to three additional floors of accommodation.

Glasgow City Council granted permission earlier this week, subject to conditions.

Documents reviewed by the planning committee read: “The redevelopment will bring a longstanding vacant office building back into beneficial use, reinstating the grandeur of the building and returning it to its original use as a 149 bedroom Meliá Innside hotel.

“Meliá Hotels International, one of the largest hotel companies in the world, currently operate four Meliá hotels in England including, three in London, and one in Manchester with a further two currently under development in Newcastle and Liverpool.

“This development will bring the first Meliá branded hotel to Scotland with the introduction of the Innside by Meliá brand to this prime location.”
