The development will see a mix of cottage flats, terraced and semi-detached homes just south of Gilbertfield Road, at Ell Crescent.

The proposal for a total of 57 new homes was approved at a recent meeting of South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee.

Isobel Dorman, councillor and chair of the committee, said: “This is great news for the residents of Cambuslang that these homes have been given approval. The houses themselves are the first to be built in the area under a ‘turn-key’ arrangement. This means that the homes on this site will be similar in design and appearance to the rest of the houses being constructed in the area.”

Josh Wilson, councillor and chair of the council’s housing and technical resources committee, said: “We are delighted that planning approval has been granted for the development of 57 affordable homes at Ell Crescent, in Cambuslang. The development will include a mixture of cottage flats and larger two, three and four-bedroom homes.

“South Lanarkshire Council is committed to delivering its target of 1000 additional homes by 2021, and this development contributes to our aim to improve the availability, quality and access of housing across South Lanarkshire.

“The council will continue to work with our Registered Social Landlord Partners and the Scottish Government to provide good quality, affordable and energy-efficient homes in the right places.”
