Housing plan for Paisley site as developers buy former pigment plant

MILLERMiller Developments Ltd and Craigrossie Properties Ltd have bought a former pigment manufacturing plant in Renfrewshire in a multi-million pound deal.

Residential redevelopment plans for the 63-acre site will be submitted to the local council.

The plant in Paisley was closed by chemical firm BASF last year, with the loss of more than 140 jobs.

David Milloy, managing director of Miller Developments, said: “The BASF site is the sixth brownfield land purchase we have made recently.

“It fits well with our strategy of purchasing land unconditionally that offers redevelopment potential.

“This is the second site that we have bought in Renfrewshire, having acquired 120 acres in Linwood in 2011, a substantial part of which we have redeveloped for residential and leisure uses.”

The plant, at Hawkhead Road, produced pigments to colour paints, paper and plastics for almost 60 years before it was closed. It has since been fully decommissioned, according to the developers.
