Approved at the council’s Finance and Resources Committee last week, the works are part of a £27.164 million scheme to repair or improve council buildings which have been prioritised for inclusion in the Condition & Suitability Programme over the next three financial years.

Upgrades and improvements to community buildings

Community facilities around Aberdeen are to get a package of building repairs or improvements.

The work includes:

• Craigielea Family Centre - replace boilers;
• Deeside Family Centre - car park and access road resurfacing;
• Deeside Family Centre - replacement automated front door;
• Ferryhill Community Centre - window replacements;
• Froghall Learning Centre - replace boilers;
• Kingswells Community Centre - roof replacement/repair;
• Loirston Annexe Community Centre - final phase of roof replacements and refurbishment;
• The Quarry Centre - replacement of fascias and rainwater goods, and canopy refurbishment;
• Rosemount Learning Centre - male toilets upgrade;
• Sheddocksley Community Centre - replacement flat roofs;
• Tullos Learning Centre - upgrading the toilets;
• Rosemount Learning Centre - upgrading boilers.

Sports centres to get upgrades

Sports centres are to get a raft of building improvements ranging from resurfacing of car parks to replacement of main hall lighting.

The work includes:

• Aberdeen Snowsports Centre - replacement of lights, and install push pad entry to main entrance;
• Aberdeen Sports Village Gym - gate replacement;
• Aberdeen Tennis Centre - install push pad entry to main entrance;
• Bridge of Don Swimming Pool - tiling/grouting repairs and expansion joint renewals, and flat roof replacement;
• Culter Sports Centre - re-tarmacing of the main car parking areas and the associated roadways;
• Culter Sports Centre Roof structure repairs and bay window improvements;
• Get active @ Peterculter - full replacement of the sports hall and studio lighting, replacing the existing fluorescent lamps with LED lighting; 
• Kincorth Sports Centre - replacement of main air handling units;
• Linx Ice Arena - automatic doors installation, and building management system upgrade;
• Sheddocksley Sports Centre - improvement of Sheddocksley Playing Fields including drainage systems, and replacement of boiler and essential improvements to the heating system;
• Westburn Lounge And Outdoor Sports Centre - accessibility improvements.

Historic and public buildings to get refurbishments

Repairs and improvements are to be carried out to public and historic buildings in Aberdeen including Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Arts Centre, Central Library, and the Maritime Museum.

The work includes:

• Aberdeen Art Gallery - replacement of mechanical and electrical equipment including humidifier upgrade, and improvements to building management system hardware & front end;
• Aberdeen Crematorium - remove uneven flagstone path and replace with tar surface;
• Arts Centre - repair and maintenance works to the clockface, stonework, timber surrounds and leadwork for the clock tower;
• Central Library - boiler replacements;
• David Welch Winter Gardens - repair corroded underground pipework;
• Maritime Museum - upgrade of public address system, and CCTV upgrade including external lighting;
• Mastrick Library - works to upgrade accessibility;
• Tolbooth Museum - heating and ventilation installation, new fire alarm system, and new intruder alarm system;
• Town House, Castle Street - repairs to Bon Accord room ceiling;
• Town House Extension, Broad Street - works to external decorative tiles;
• Various locations - rebuilding of cemetery boundary walls.

Improvements to school buildings

Dozens of school buildings in Aberdeen are to get upgrades and improvement works.

The work includes:

• Bridge Of Don Academy - internal alterations to accommodate community activities, partitions to enclose science labs and create a new corridor, and replacement lighting rig and lighting to drama studio, upgrade kitchen gas supply and ventilation system, replacement passenger lift, alterations to existing staff room to create additional teaching space, and kitchen refurbishment;
• Dyce Academy - replacement of obsolete light fittings;
• Harlaw Academy - flat roof replacements to several parts of the school, general refurbishment, and lighting replacement;
• Northfield Academy - upgrade kitchen gas supply and ventilation system;
• Oldmachar Academy - replacement lighting rig and lighting to drama studio, upgrade the kitchen gas supply and ventilation system, and replace passenger lift;
• Abbotswell School - to replace the entrance matting and replace the flooring in classrooms with acoustic vinyl, teaching corridor & playzone;
• Brimmond School - replace air handling unit on external plant room;
• Broomhill School - replacement of atrium roof and create a direct dedicated entrance to the nursery from the lane behind the school;
• Charleston School - replace CCTV system;
• Cornhill School - replacement boundary fencing;
• Cults School - toilet refurbishment phase 2, and full kitchen refurbishment and dining area;
• Dyce School - replacement staff and pupil toilets, and replace existing flooring throughout;
• Forehill School - flooring replacement;
• Fernielea School - remedial measures to address flooding issues, fire alarm upgrade, and access to boiler room alterations;
• Glashieburn School - window and external door replacements phase 2;
• Gilcomstoun School - refurbish old nursery toilets into new primary girls toilet, replace kitchen in the nurser;
• Greenbrae School - installation of window winders;
• Kingswells School - replacement vinyl to pupil toilet;.
• Kirkhill School - improve environmental conditions and fencing upgrades;
• Middleton Park School Modular Units - solum ventilation improvements;
• Quarryhill School - replacement of obsolete boilers, and - improve site security, including P1 play area;
• Scotstown School - replace existing games hall and P1 and P2 flooring, and create a secure front entrance to the school with a visitor waiting area.
• Skene Square School - replace kitchen units and sink in nursery, and install anti-glare roller blinds to rooms where there are none or the existing blinds are beyond repair;
• St Josephs RC School - external playground drainage and tree root works , and fire alarm system, former Bishop’s House;
• Tullos School - security to doors and playground;
• Woodside School - boiler replacement
