Aberdeen ‘Get Into Construction’ event to reveal sector opportunities
Job seekers, school leavers, students, graduates, and career changers in Aberdeen are invited to explore opportunities in the construction sector at the ‘Get into Construction’ event on Monday, 1 December, at the Beach Ballroom.
ABZWorks – Aberdeen City Council’s Employability and Skills service – is hosting the free event to help individuals take their first steps into the construction industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with local employers, gain valuable insights into the diverse career paths available, and receive practical advice on how to get started.
Councillor Christian Allard, co-leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “Construction offers diverse and rewarding career paths, from skilled trades to professional roles and this event is a great opportunity for anyone considering a future in the sector to meet employers, ask questions, and discover the routes into these jobs.
“Whether you’re looking for your first role, planning a career change, or exploring options after education, this ABZWorks event is designed to help people living in Aberdeen to take the next step.”
Exhibitors include Robert Gordon University, North East Scotland College (NESCol), CHAP, Balfour Beatty, Morrison Construction, and Aberdeen City Council.
The Get into Construction event has been organised in recognition of ongoing recruitment challenges in the construction industry and major projects being developed in the region, with a view to supporting Aberdeen residents to secure good, sustainable employment.
Skills Development Scotland forecasts that an additional 1,000 construction jobs will be required in the region by 2034.
Get into Construction brings together not only employers and experts in the field, some of whom may have live vacancies, but also training organisations which can support people at entry level right through to enabling individuals to secure professional qualifications.
Attendees will be able to speak to people working the field across a broad range of specialisms and hear first-hand about not only how to get into jobs in the sector, but also progression routes, salary ranges, and much more.
The event will take place on Monday 1 December, from 10am to 1pm, at the Beach Ballroom, Beach Boulevard, Aberdeen, AB24 5NR.
Attendance is free, and no advance booking is required.
Any construction industry organisations interested in taking a free stand at the event should email abzworks@aberdeencity.gov.uk.
This event is funded through No One Left Behind, a Scottish Government initiative.
