After over 20 years working for architectural firms across the north-east, Deborah Anderson established Deborah Anderson Architect during 2022, The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) reports. 

Since then, Anderson has developed a reputation for advising owners and architects on the repair, restoration and future of historic buildings.

Anderson said: “After more than 20 years working in architectural practices across the north-east, I decided it was time to go out on my own. 

“Starting DA Architect allowed me to build my business around something I’m genuinely passionate about. I’d become increasingly drawn to historic buildings and enjoyed helping owners understand and care for them.”

When asked by The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) how she got where she is today, Anderson commented: “It’s been a gradual journey built on experience, curiosity and a genuine fascination with Scotland’s historic buildings. 

“I’ve worked on a wide range of projects, from traditional building repairs to complex listed building applications.”

Anderson also felt that building a good network has been a positive step forward. Anderson said: “Joining the Federation of Small Businesses has been a great support, and it allows me to focus on what I do best while learning from others.

“I’d like to continue growing the practice and strengthen my reputation as a trusted source of specialist conservation advice across Scotland.”

When asked by the publication as to how the government could support her to reach her targets, Anderson said: “I’d love to see more support for repairing and reusing historic buildings. One of the greenest things we can do is look after the buildings we already have.”
