The founder and managing director of ACT Construction, the temperature-controlled rooms, fire-rated partitions and security storage installer, has announced he is stepping back from day-to-day frontline management of the business.

In his place, Ken Godsman has appointed Scott Weir and Chris Leavy as joint managing directors.

The move is designed to aid and support continued growth and profitability at the firm.

Ken explained: “Last year was very busy for ACT, especially as we came back from the turmoil of the Covid pandemic and issues created by Brexit. Despite these challenges, we managed to double turnover and report a modest profit.

“As we head into 2023 and beyond, there are strong signs of good opportunities for further expansion of the business, as well as market consolidation. In order to make this possible, it is necessary for me to relinquish some of the roles I was performing.

“If truth be told, I was performing too many roles and spreading myself too thinly across key areas of the business. Now, I hope, the business will have the room and quality of experienced leadership to flourish under the joint management of Scott and Chris.”

Scott has worked alongside Ken for more than 25 years. He is a trusted friend and colleague who has played a huge part in the success and evolution of ACT. He is also one of the whitewall cladding industry’s most respected and experienced professionals.

Meanwhile, Chris joined the business in September 2022 having been head-hunted with the assistance of a specialist executive recruitment agency. He has extensive experience in both main and sub-contracting organisations and he has previously worked alongside ACT in the delivery of major food industry projects.

Commenting on his appointment, Scott said: “Ken and I have been working together as a partnership for many years. As the business grows it is only correct that he steps back to focus on fewer, but no less important, areas of the business.

“I have always been driven by providing a first-class installation and, with an expanding team of installers, I will continue in my new role to do exactly that.”

Chris recalls his first meeting with Ken when he was approached about the opportunity to work at ACT. He said: “It was obvious when talking to Ken that he was well down the line with a planned business strategy to achieve growth and sustained profitability. It was this challenge – and the fact he was so keen for me to join the business – that made the opportunity a compelling one.

“I now look forward to working with the team in place towards achieving all of the strategic goals.”

In making the organisational changes, Ken will continue to maintain a busy work schedule that will focus on the financial health of the business, while also managing HR-related issues.

Ken added: “As a business, we look forward with confidence to continuing to serve our existing client base and to exploring opportunities for further expansion.”

Scott and Chris took up their new posts from Monday, April 3.
