Advance Construction launches event to promote construction careers
Advance Construction Group has announced the launch of its Construction Experience weekend, which is a free community event aimed at encouraging young people to look into careers in construction, engineering and infrastructure.
Kicking off at the grounds at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum, the event will Unite The Advance Group of companies and industry partners to present the wide range of career opportunities available across Scotland’s construction sector.
With the industry facing an evident skills gap, and rising demand across housing, infrastructure, energy and regeneration, the event aims to give children and families the opportunity to get to know the industry.
Attendees will able to climb into real construction plant and machinery, watch live construction demonstrations, meet construction professionals and learn about construction career pathways.
The event has been developed to challenge outdated perceptions of the industry and show the range of careers available within construction.
Seamus Shields, managing director and owner at The Advance Group, said: “Construction is one of Scotland’s most exciting industries, yet many young people never have the opportunity to experience it first hand.
“We wanted to create an event that opens the doors of our industry, allowing families to see the technology, machinery, skills and people behind the projects that shape our communities.”
Shields added: “If we can inspire even a handful of young people to consider a career in construction, engineering or infrastructure, then the event will have been a success.”
The event will also place a spotlight on the significance of collaboration across the construction industry, with several charitable organisations supporting the initiative through demonstrations, exhibitions and wider engagement.
The event is taking place between 8 August (10am to 4pm) and on 9 August (11am to 4pm).
