Launched in January, then extended in March, the call for ideas was supported by the publication of a number of resources that were intended to stimulate debate around a long-term plan for Scotland that sets out where development and infrastructure is needed to support sustainable and inclusive growth.

While any ideas could be submitted, the Scottish Government was particularly interested to hear thoughts on five key issues:

  • What development will we need to address climate change?
  • How can planning best support our quality of life, health and wellbeing in the future?
  • What does planning need to do to enable development and investment in our economy so that it benefits everyone?
  • What policies are needed to improve, protect and strengthen the special character of our places?
  • What infrastructure do we need to build to realise our long-term aspirations?

The report provides a detailed analysis of the responses that were received to the call for ideas.

An executive summary report has also been published.
