The ex-Macy’s building at 1406 N. Galleria Drive in the Sugar District development has been made available for sale or lease by the commercial real estate firm TOK, BoiseDev reports. 

The building had initially opened in 2009 for the retailer, in what was then termed as the Nampa Gateway. 

In 2017, Macy’s announced after the Christmas period that it would shut the store and consequently lay off 57 employees.

But in 2022, robotics firm House of Design took over the building and brought in 73,000 square feet for research and development. 

The remainder was used for office space for roughly 200 employees. The deal came shortly after private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners made a major investment in the Nampa-based firm.

David Blum and Connie Lefkowitz of Cullinan Holdings purchased House of Design in March 2024. But by December 2024, House of Design was in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy proceedings - not of its own accord. 

Ultimately, four creditors forced House of Design into bankruptcy proceedings involuntarily and all employees were laid off.

Canyon County property records have said the building and parking lot are owned by an entity controlled by Salt Lake City developer Gardener Co. In 2021, Gardener purchased Nampa Gateway and later rebranded it as the “Sugar District.”
