Houses of ParliamentThe Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has announced the five finalists of their Minecraft Competition which was launched in association with International Construction Management Day on 9 March.

  • The Petronas Towers by Cambo2013

  • The Houses of Parliament by LazerEyesMC
  • The Houses of Parliament by Nie_Longbottom
  • The Shard by Oscar9379485
  • CCTV Tower by Totally Guy

  • 77 people took part in the contest to build one of five real life buildings in the online world. The entrants were a mixture of construction professionals, students and Minecraft enthusiasts. The overall winner will be decided by a public vote. Videos of all five final builds have been produced and are available to view HERE. The public vote will close on 8 May 2015 with overall winner announced on 11 May 2015.

Saul Townsend, head of communications at the CIOB, said: “This competition created a palpable sense of fear within the BIM community challenged to take on Minecrafters in their own back yard. What has amazed us is the level of detail that participants managed to achieve in replicating these projects. If construction wants to attract the next generation of professionals it has only to look at Minecraft and the millions of users showcasing their passion and talent for building structures. Our competition may have well unearthed a future Construction Manager of the Year winner.”

International Construction Management Day was launched in 2010. It began as a partnership between the Chartered Institute of Building, the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and the Construction Management Associations of America (CMAA), Japan (CMAJ), and Korea (CMAK). It falls on the second Monday in March each year and celebrates the role construction management plays in securing healthy fulfilled populations.
