And finally… fashion redesigner
Stella McCartney has altered designs for a £5 million modern mansion on a remote Highland plot in an effort to save the area’s natural habitats.
McCartney, and her husband, Alasdhair Willis, are planning to build a secluded hideaway at Commando Rock in Glenuig.
Dozens of objections have been submitted to Highland Council over the application, which was lodged in the name of the fashion designer’s husband.
The beauty spot, about 30 miles west of Fort William, is on the Moidart peninsula.
Highland council’s forestry team had objected on the grounds that Corsican pine trees could be felled and works for a water supply would have an “adverse effect” on existing trees.
Fresh plans that change the designs of the house, in an effort to avoid damaging tree lines, have been submitted.
The architects Brown & Brown commissioned a report to assess the area following comments from planners and talks over the impact on the natural habitat.
The report said: “EnviroCentre Limited was commissioned by Brown & Brown on behalf of their client to conduct a preliminary ecological appraisal at a site known as The Rock in Roshven, Lochailort to inform proposals for the development of single residential house.
“The aim of the survey was to determine the ecological baseline of the site, in terms of habitats present and evidence of protected species, which may be affected by the proposed development.”
