Will Bower built a floating pub for his father’s 60th birthday, reports The Argus. 

Made using a repurposed shed, the pub has been built to float on a handmade pontoon, and is a tribute to Bower’s father’s love of being on the water and pints.

Bower said: “My dad’s turning 60 very soon and he loves being on the water and he loves beer, so we thought the next thing should be to build a floating pub.”

Earlier last week, Bower started building the pub, named ‘The Float Inn’ and said he had put a lot of time into his creation. 

The most tricky part of the project was identifying an appropriate place to float the vessel.

Bower initially went to Arun District Council, but was turned down due to safety and environmental concerns.

Bower commented: “I emailed about 50 different places, reservoirs, fisheries, and nowhere would have it.”

Bower eventually found an area of the River Adur between Upper Beeding and Shoreham which was appropriate with respect to public navigation rights.
