And finally... Flooding forces closure of flood museum

A museum dedicated to remembering a 19th-century flood in Pennsylvania has temporarily closed due to flooding.

The Johnstown Flood Museum has been closed due to flooding caused by a valve failure on the building’s third floor, museum officials said. Water poured through the walls, resulting in damage to the facility.

Fortunately, items of historic importance, such as artifacts and archives, were not affected, officials said. The damage primarily involves carpets, drywall, and ceiling tiles, which need to be dried out or replaced.

“We are very fortunate that a volunteer docent, Nicky Bosley, came into work in the archives on the day that the museum was closed during our winter operating schedule and discovered there was a problem,” officials said. “She sounded the alarm and allowed us to get in here and keep it from being much, much worse.”

The museum is working with its insurance company to reopen the building as soon as possible once mitigation work is completed.
