And finally… How the Dutch built a tunnel under a highway in one weekend

Time-lapse footage has emerged which shows a group of construction workers install a 70-metre tunnel in just one weekend.

The intense work schedule means the construction workers were required to work around the clock to get the tunnel done in time while causing minimal disruption to motorists.

The video sees the workers brave through torrential rain and violent winds to complete their jobs.

The time-lapse video condenses the weekend-long work, from May 20–May 22, into just three minutes.

A live webcam stream from the construction site showed exactly how workers used four cranes to demolish the road before sliding in the fitted tunnel.

The footage then sees the workers filling in sand around the gaps before launching into an intense paving operation.

Despite a fierce storm, the workers manage to get on with their jobs and finish on time.

The impressive work was carried out by the Dutch construction company Heijmans on the A12 highway towards Arnhem in the Netherlands.

The busy national road was shut over the weekend but was back up and running by the Monday morning.

The local monitoring group of the A12 road, RWSA12VEG, announced: “After all the hard work, now three lanes open are towards Arnhem!”

By the Monday, the road was back up and running.
