And finally… I do
Dunglass Estate glass atrium
An East Lothian estate has said ‘I do’ to the inclusion of a new glass atrium as wedding demand in Scotland continues to take form.
Once termed as “the most romantic sweet place I ever saw” by Robert Burns, the historic East Lothian estate is investing in a new glass atrium.
Home to the 15th century Dunglass Collegiate Church and owned by the Usher family for generations, Dunglass Estate has gained six-figure funding from Bank of Scotland to finance a glass atrium roof above its courtyard.
Scheduled to be completed by February next year, the new glass atrium will form a weatherproof event area that maintains views of the sky.
The move arrives as Dunglass sees increasing interest from couples travelling from the UK and abroad to marry in Scotland. The estate holds roughly 60 weddings per year and has seen especially high demand from Europe.
For the owners Simon and Joyce Usher, who since 2006 have resided on the estate with their children, the move represents a new development in protecting one of Scotland’s most romantic historic settings.
The glass atrium, designed by Scottish architects Mozolowski & Murray, will facilitate a space for ceremonies, receptions and celebrations.
Simon Usher, owner of Dunglass Estate, said: “For centuries, Dunglass has been shaped by history, heritage and the people who have called it home. Through responsible stewardship, investment and innovation it is a place where heritage and progress exist side by side.
“Dunglass continues to evolve, welcoming new generations of visitors, guests and families who choose to celebrate life’s most meaningful moments here and become part of its ongoing story”.
Ross Penman, relationship manager at Bank of Scotland, said: “Dunglass Estate is a fantastic example of a family business successfully balancing heritage with innovation.
“The team has created a destination that attracts couples from across the UK and internationally, while continuing to invest sensitively in the estate’s future. It is brilliant to be part of this latest development as Dunglass strengthens its position as one of Scotland’s leading wedding venues.”
