And finally… Longstanding construction rubble pile provokes amusing response from hidden business

A US flooring business has been turning heads with a banner placed alongside a road near its store.

Flowood Flooring and Design, obviously poking fun about how long a pile of dirt resulting from a construction project has been in front of its building, posted a banner in front with a large arrow pointing to the dirt pile saying “Flowood Flooring and Design. We’re still behind this big pile of dirt.”

After receiving support, and many laughs, from passing motorists, the Mississippi company even offered a 10 per cent discount to anyone who mentioned the banner.

Unfortunately officials from the City of Flowood did not see the funny side and ordered that the banner was removed.

On Wednesday, the business posted to its Facebook page: “We’ve heard from many of you and appreciate the positive feedback we’ve received on our banner. Unfortunately, the City of Flowood doesn’t have the same sense of humour as us, and we have removed it.”

When asked by a customer on their page why they had to remove it, the firm responded: “To be fair to the city, we didn’t get a permit before placing the signage. City ordinance states that there must be a permit to put up a banner like that. We are going to seek a variance from them in the hopes that we can display it once again though!”

Flowood Flooring and Design said although the sign isn’t there, it will still offer the discount to anyone who mentions the banner, adding: “as long as you can find us!”
