And finally… new kit on the block
The V&A Dundee has been submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform, giving the waterfront landmark a shot at becoming an official LEGO set.
The proposal comes from LEGO enthusiast DraftyDollar, who has built a highly detailed brick version of the museum. Their design mirrors the building’s striking form and textured exterior, now widely recognised as one of Scotland’s most distinctive pieces of architecture.
In the project description, DraftyDollar notes that the model is based on the V&A Museum of Design Dundee, created by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and opened in 2018. The real building’s dramatic shape was inspired by Scotland’s coastal cliffs and has since become a defining symbol of Dundee’s regeneration.
The LEGO model aims to capture those sharp angles and layered facades. DraftyDollar said the design first gained attention online in 2018, even before the museum opened, and described the V&A Dundee as their favourite building and a joy to recreate.
To ensure accuracy, they used a Dundee Waterfront mobile app featuring a 3D model of the museum, allowing them to zoom, rotate and study the structure’s proportions and layout in detail.
The submission also emphasises the museum’s wider cultural significance. As Scotland’s first design museum—and the first V&A outside London—the V&A Dundee played a major role in Dundee being named a UNESCO City of Design.
Since appearing on LEGO Ideas, the project has already gathered more than 135 supporters. If it reaches the required vote threshold, LEGO will consider it for development as an official set.
