And finally... our friends in the north

A major seaside resort with capacity for 20,000 people has been inaugurated on the eastern coast of North Korea.

The Wonsan Kalma tourist area will open for domestic visitors next Tuesday and to international guests — most likely from China and Russia — at a later date.

“Thanks to the firm revolutionary will of the Workers’ Party of Korea to bring about the shining efflorescence of socialist civilisation on our land in our own way with our own resources, entities of new life and new wellbeing are created one after another in different parts of the country,” the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported yesterday.

The state-run news agency hailed the new resort as a “proud and encouraging creation that redoubles the patriotic enthusiasm of our people to outpace the world”.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is said to have attended the official opening ceremony on Tuesday.

“When Kim Jong Un arrived, stormy cheers of ‘Hurrah!’ resounded far and wide,” KCNA said.

“All the participants paid the highest tribute to Kim Jong Un, the great master of creation and construction and the dear father, who is ushering in a new era of prosperity and development full of laughter and happiness of the people with the ardent desire to provide the beloved people with a brighter and richer life and new civilisation and with his brilliant wisdom and energetic leadership practice.”
