And finally… Photography competition launched to celebrate 50th anniversary of Tay Road Bridge

Tay Road BridgeOrganisers of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Tay Road Bridge are looking for images of the iconic crossing.

Spanning the estuary of the river Tay between Dundee and Newport-on-Tay, the 2250m bridge was designed by William A Fairhurst and took three years to build between 1963 and 1966 at a cost of around £4.8 million.

The main contractor was Duncan Logan (Contractors) Ltd of Muir of Ord.

There will be two competitions, one specifically for mobile phones and the other will be artistic based for other devices.

Winners will receive £50 in prize money and have their photograph displayed as part of the planned memorabilia road show. They will also get a family ticket to board a special boat trip across the Tay on August 21.

Chair of the Tay Road Bridge Joint Board, Councillor Maggie Taylor said: “We’re urging photographers, both amateur and professional photographers to submit their pictures.



“This is a fantastic way to celebrate 50 years of the Tay Road Bridge and we need people to get out there and take pictures of our iconic bridge.”
