And finally... Prince Charles plans new Scottish farm school

Prince Charles

The Prince’s Foundation, the educational charity established by Prince Charles, has submitted plans to create a new farming school in Scotland.

The proposed agricultural school, to be built on the grounds of Dumfries House Estate near Cumnock, is aimed attracting new talent to the farming and rural sector.

It will train around 1,800 people over the age of 14 every year, Farmers Guardian reports.

A design statement submitted to East Ayrshire planning authorities says: “The aim of the courses would be to ignite interest in potential careers and further study pathways to higher level qualifications and specialisms.”

Gordon Neil, executive director of the Prince’s Foundation, added: “The foundation recognises the need to pass on traditional and rural skills, such as hedge-laying, drystone walling, fencing, drainage and butchery, within the existing workforce, and our proposed new facility next to Home Farm on Dumfries House estate will further broaden the agricultural education offering.”
