And finally... rocky road

Edinburgh’s Radical Road is set to partially reopen for the first time in nearly a decade.

Sir Walter Scott proposed the creation of the path around the base of Salisbury Crags to create jobs for weavers left unemployed in the wake of the 1820 Radical Rising.

It was closed to the public in September 2018 due to an active risk of rockfall.

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) says public access will be reinstated to parts of the Radical Road, from the Hawse to the Northern end of the South Quarry, in early 2026.

Edinburgh councillors have welcomed and approved the reopening plan, BBC News reports.
