And finally… sound decision
US billionaire Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly gifted noise-cancelling headphones to his neighbours in Palo Alto in an attempt to quell discontent over his expanding residential compound.
Over the past 14 years, the Meta CEO has spent upwards of $110 million (c. £82m) acquiring at least 11 properties in the Crescent Park neighbourhood, transforming the once-quiet enclave into a zone dominated by construction equipment.
Residents have endured nearly eight years of street blockages, debris, and relentless noise, prompting Mr Zuckerberg’s team to offer appeasement gifts ranging from the headphones to sparkling wine and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Fortune reports.
The billionaire’s compound now features guest homes, lush gardens, and extensive underground structures – dubbed “bunkers” by locals – spanning 7,000 square feet. Despite the region’s acute housing shortage, some purchased properties sit unoccupied, while others are surrounded by strict privacy barriers and heavy security patrols.
Although a spokesperson for Mr Zuckerberg insists the family values the community and exceeds local requirements to minimise disruption, neighbours argue the area has been negatively altered.
