And finally… star power

Hong Kong actor Joel Chan was photographed having a meal at a roadside stall in Kuala Lumpur, with his rugged look leading some locals to mistake him for a construction worker.
According to The Star, the actor was captured on camera by a Xiaohongshu user while dressed casually in a white tank top and ripped jeans. Seated with his phone in hand, Chan’s face was partly obscured, sparking confusion among some who failed to recognise him.
“Bumped into a celebrity on the street,” the user captioned, adding a hashtag with the actor’s name.
Chan was reportedly in Malaysia to film a project slated for release during the 2026 Lunar New Year.
In the comments section, several netizens admitted they were unsure of his identity. “Is he a construction worker?” one asked. Another wrote: “Wait, who is this person? Is he filming something?”
Chan, 49, first entered the entertainment industry in 1995 as a Cantopop singer before shifting to acting. Over the years, he has built a strong television career, winning the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2017 TVB Anniversary Awards for his role as Kent in the action drama “The Unholy Alliance.”
