It was a day of celebration and pride as Angus Housing Association officially opened the new Crudie Farm site, a 36-home development at the western edge of Arbroath.

Scotia Homes site manager Stephen Milne and Councillor Martin Shepherd joined new tenants, colleagues, representatives from Angus Council and the local community to celebrate the milestone and to witness the positive impact it has had on the local area.

Tenant Maureen Campbell was proud to mark the occasion by cutting the ribbon outside her new property to officially open the new development.

Maureen, her husband Hamish, daughter Ellamae, and son Erik are delighted with their new home. The family have been waiting a number of years for a suitable wheelchair adapted property for Erick, their adult son who is severely disabled and requires constant care.

Maureen said: “I am absolutely over the moon with my new home; it really is life-changing for me and my family. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and we can all now feel relaxed and settled in our home.

“The layout of the property and specially adapted shower room will make caring for Erik much easier as there are no more stairs to struggle with. The standard of the home is excellent, and I want to thank everyone at Angus Housing Association and Scotia Homes.”

The development forms part of Scotia Homes’ Aberfell project and has been delivered via the local government’s Section 75 planning agreement.

The mix of property types includes 1-bedroom flats, 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom family homes, and wheelchair-accessible bungalows. Seven of these properties have been sold through the Scottish Government’s shared equity scheme. All homes are equipped with energy-efficient air source heat pumps, helping to lower both fuel bills for tenants and the overall carbon footprint of the development.

Other guests of honour at the event included Patricia Millar and Alex King, both of whom previously served as local councillors and now have streets in the development named after them.

The event recognised their lasting contributions to the community. Although Ralph Coutts, for whom Ralph Coutts Mews is named, has sadly passed away, Patricia and Alex, who both knew Ralph, had their photo taken beside his street sign to acknowledge his legacy in the area.

Angus Housing Association chief executive Gail Robertson said: “Crudie Farm is more than just a new collection of homes; it stands as a testament to thoughtful planning and dedicated teamwork, with a shared commitment to improving lives through high-quality, affordable housing.

“Angus Housing Association extends its gratitude to development partners Scotia Homes for their ongoing collaboration and excellence. Feedback from tenants and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with praise for the layout, finish, and welcoming garden spaces that enhance quality of life.

“Special thanks are also given to our clerk of works, Colin Gibson, and development officer, Scott Traynor, whose tireless efforts helped turn the vision for Crudie Farm into a reality.

“The morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolised more than just the opening of new doors, it marked the beginning of new chapters for the families who will call Crudie Farm home. We are delighted to hear the positive impact this new development is already having on tenants ’ lives, and it is an absolute honour that tenant Maureen Campbell is the one to officially open the site.

“As ever, partnership working has helped deliver this development, and it’s important to express our gratitude and celebrate our achievements together with Angus Council and the Scottish Government. This development was supported by £3.7 million in government grant funding, without which it would not have been realised.”
