Anniesland care home ‘on track’ for winter launch

Anniesland care home 'on track' for winter launch

Work to regenerate surplus land in Glasgow’s West End into a new care home is progressing well, with the 58-bedroom project on track to open its doors later this year.

CCG (Scotland) has been onsite in Anniesland since August 2024. The firm is part of an innovative joint venture with care home developer Morrison Community Care Group that identifies and transforms brownfield land into private care accommodation for people over the age of 65.

The Anniesland care home, located on Anniesland Road neighbouring Yarrow Recreation Club, is one of four under construction across the Central Belt. Each development follows a defined design blueprint and is purpose-built to meet localised demand for residential, nursing, and dementia care services, while offering a warm, welcoming environment thanks to a wide range of integrated amenities.

Those that will be available to future residents in Anniesland include private, en-suite bedrooms and dining rooms with meals cooked by professional chefs, as well as a cinema room, hair salon, champagne bar, visitors’ café, and landscaped grounds.

CCG (Scotland) managing director, David Wylie, said: “Despite the challenging nature of the site, our Contract Team has done an excellent job, and I am delighted with the progress made to date.

“Key to our success - on this site and others like it - is the integration of our in-house expertise. Our core main construction and manufacturing divisions work seamlessly with our building services and utilities contractors, as well as our joinery, plumbing and flooring teams, to offer a comprehensive, one-stop-shop approach to delivery.

“I give thanks to our much-valued design team members Holmes Miller, Cowal Design, Design Me, and CRGP for their continued support, and look forward to seeing how the development progresses over the coming months.”

CCG has worked in partnership with Morrison Community Care Group since 2017, forming Morrison Community Care (CCG) Holdco Ltd in 2021.

Morrison Community Care has branched out from being a care operator to developer, with sites under construction in Scotland, England, and Ireland, but managing director Paul Sokhi recognises the significance of this hometown project.

He said: “Morrison Community Care began its journey in Anniesland. Our very first care home opened on Anniesland Road in 1988, not far from where we are now, and over a 20-year period, we formed a strong and lasting relationship with the local community.

“It is hugely significant that we are back where it all started. It serves as a reminder of where we have come from, however, the nature of our return is evidence that the challenges that faced this community four decades ago not only remain but have become even more deeply rooted.

“Like many areas across Scotland, Anniesland is experiencing a growing ageing population, yet continues to struggle to meet localised demand with a shortage of care home beds and carers, adding to the pressure on our already overburdened NHS.

“While our new care home, alongside others opening around the country, reflects Morrison Community Care’s growth and our continued commitment to delivering the highest standards of care, more work needs to be done across the UK to help unlock development and support our elderly population.”
