The Bancon Group has announced the appointment of experienced planning and development professional Graeme Reay as the land and commercial director for its homes business.

Mr Reay has spent more than 30 years within the property sector in the UK in roles spanning the public sector and private and plc companies. Whilst he has more recently been working in the North West of England and the Central Belt of Scotland, a significant part of his professional life has been in the North East of Scotland, an area he grew up in and knows well.

John Irvine, chief executive of Bancon Group, said: “Graeme is a strong addition to the homes team and his wealth of experience will be instrumental in ensuring that we leverage our land assets in support of our longer term growth strategy.”

Prior to joining Bancon, Graeme Reay was land director with Bett Homes in Scotland.

Commenting on his appointment, he said “The opportunity to join the Bancon Group is one that I could not ignore. It currently controls a significant land bank with the potential to deliver in excess of 6,000 units as well as complimentary commercial development opportunities. These factors, coupled with the Group’s growth aspirations, provide the necessary tools to effectively grow the company in a controlled and sustainable way and I look forward to working with the team to achieve this.”

Mr Reay began his career in Aberdeen with FG Burnett before joining Aberdeen City Council and then went on to work within the new home industry across Scotland and North West England in a series of senior management roles.

Over the past 15 years, he has predominantly focussed on the land, planning and commercial elements of the house building industry and has a significant track record for delivery of both short and longer term land for housing covering the private for sale and private rented sectors.

In addition, he is a member and immediate past chair of the Planning, Development and Environment Professional Group Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Scotland. His work there involves lobbying and consultation with Scottish Government and other statutory bodies in relation to planning and environmental legislation in Scotland together with preparation of guidance notes in relation to these topics.

Bancon Group’s current projects include high profile homes sites in Aberdeen City, Aboyne and Drumoak.

Graeme replaces Graham Reid who recently joined Savills as director of development in Aberdeen.
