Coatbridge Community Foodbank

Coatbridge Community Foodbank received £1,000 as part of Barratt Homes Scotland West’s Community Fund, and will be using its donation towards keeping the foodbank operational and purchasing much-needed items, such as basic toiletries and groceries.

The Coatbridge Community Foodbank aims to tackle food poverty in Coatbridge and surrounding areas and is operated exclusively by local volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Supported by local retail businesses, the foodbank also engages in raising awareness of food poverty issues with primary and secondary schools across the region.

John Convery, co-founder at Coatbridge Community Foodbank, said: “From us and on behalf of the many we seek to assist we would like to thank Barratt for its very generous donation.  Although the foodbank was established five years ago at a time of austerity, it has been called to step up its operation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will ensure that every penny of the donation will be spent help struggling families to access food and essentials.”

Suzanne Craven, finance director at Barratt Homes West Scotland, added: “The work they’re carrying out is vital in these unprecedented times and the local community depend on them. We’re very pleased to help support them with this donation and look forward to helping them where we can in the future.”

Now in its second year, the Barratt Homes Community Fund has pledged to donate £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation in the west of Scotland.

Charities are nominated by and voted for by employees of Barratt Homes and the focus for the fund continues to be on organisations that improve the quality of life for those living in the area.
