Bellway builds blocks with primary school

Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland East) has donated over £3,000 to Elphinstone Primary to purchase vital learning equipment.

The school plans to use the £3,365 donation to buy large school unit block sets, a learning tool that fosters open-ended, creative and constructive play amongst children and helps develop their critical thinking skills.

Last term the housebuilder, who is developing a new residential development in the picturesque village, which is near Tranent in East Lothian, donated £500 to the school Parent Teachers Association.

Chris Graham, sales manager at Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland East), said: “The pupils have been really interested in finding out all about the new local homes that are being built and we are in the process of arranging a visit to our site so they can see first-hand all the different elements that go into building a new development.

“It’s very important to us to support the communities in which we build and ensure that our developments are sympathetically integrated within existing neighbourhoods, particularly in a village as small as Elphinstone, and our new residents welcome.”

Elaine Williamson, a principal teacher at Elphinstone Primary, added: “We are delighted by this contribution from Bellway. We are looking to ensure these blocks are used from nursery to primary seven to support the children’s learning in science, technology, engineering and technology. We hope to take the children over to visit the new development when it is safe to do so.”
