The growth capital investor BGF has completed a multi-million-pound investment in the engineering consultancy Harley Haddow.
The collaboration will support the company’s next phase of growth.
Over 80% of Harley Haddow’s live projects have a decarbonisation or net zero focus, reflecting the increasing demand for specialist expertise in enhancing building performance and cutting carbon emissions.
The firm’s portfolio includes SWG3 in Glasgow, and ongoing involvement in the renovation of the glasshouses at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Edinburgh, the firm has shown strong growth momentum, expanding its service offering through the acquisition of specialist consultancy Pillar Fire, and growing its team to almost 200 people.
As part of the next phase of the business’s development, Marc McLuskey, currently a director at Harley Haddow, will become chief executive officer.
Through BGF’s Talent Network, Charles Layfield will join the business as non-executive chair.
Marc McLuskey, chief executive officer of Harley Haddow, said: “Harley Haddow has built a strong reputation over 75 years by combining deep technical expertise with a highly personal approach to clients.
“We are now a UK-wide consultancy employing nearly 200 people, with a strong platform from which to continue expanding our geographic reach and service offering.”
McLuskey added: “BGF’s minority investment model will allow us to accelerate our growth ambitions while ensuring Harley Haddow remains independently managed, with our existing leadership team, culture and values firmly in place.
“BGF’s experience in the built environment sector, collaborative approach and alignment with our ambitions made them the right partner to support the next stage of our journey.”
John Devine, investor at BGF, said: “Harley Haddow combines 75 years of engineering expertise with the ambition and momentum of a high-growth business.
“With a strong management team, an established reputation and clear opportunities for organic and acquisitive growth, Harley Haddow is well positioned for its next phase of expansion.”
