Briar Homes strengthens community links in Kennoway with school safety talk

Family-owned homebuilder Briar Homes has embedded itself into the Kennoway community following the start of construction at its first Fife development, Weavers View.

The team has been engaging directly with local pupils, delivering a vital safety talk to Kennoway Primary School, and supporting the village’s biodiversity with the upcoming installation of bug hotels within the primary school garden grounds.

Pupils at Kennoway Primary School recently enjoyed a memorable assembly when Briar Homes visited to teach them how to stay safe around building sites. The activity took place ahead of work beginning on the new Weavers View neighbourhood.

The interactive session helped pupils understand the hazards to look out for on a construction site, the safety equipment used to protect workers, and the different types of building materials and how they are recycled. The session also aimed to highlight future opportunities and careers within the construction industry.

To build on the session, Briar Homes has arranged a competition for pupils to design site safety posters in the new year.

Mrs Jil Simpson, headteacher at Kennoway Primary School, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to consolidate and develop their knowledge and understanding about safety, sustainability, and the exciting possibilities in construction.

“We are grateful to Briar Homes for taking the time to engage with our children and we very much look forward to working in partnership with the Briar Team over the course of the development at Weavers View. The bug hotels will be a welcome addition to our wildlife garden and support cross-curricular learning across our school”.

As part of Briar Homes’ commitment to enhancing local green spaces, a series of bug hotels will be installed to boost habitats for pollinators and encourage children to learn more about local wildlife. The initiative is designed to support the area’s natural ecosystem while offering an early glimpse into the sustainable features planned for the new development.

Weavers View is a £40 million development and marks Briar Homes’ first major project in Fife.

Once complete, the development will deliver 123 new private homes and 14 affordable homes on behalf of Fife Council. The mix of three-and four-bedroom properties has been designed to meet the growing demand for family-friendly, energy-efficient homes in the region.

Paul Kelly, managing director of Briar Homes, added: “Supporting the communities we work in is incredibly important to us. We want to ensure we’re not just delivering high-quality homes, but also making a positive and lasting contribution to the local area. Engaging with schools, promoting safety, and investing in local biodiversity are all part of our commitment to giving back and being a responsible neighbour in Kennoway.”
