  • Scottish professor launches urgent £160k fundraising plea for gowns, masks and gloves as coronavirus set to peak

Masks for Scotland, a charity spearheaded by Jill Belch, professor of vascular medicine at the University of Dundee, has announced the launch of an urgent fundraising plea to the public and businesses to urgently donate what they can now and help provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), to those working in the frontline of the community in Scotland during this fight against coronavirus.

Building Briefs – April 16th

In just a few days, the charity has raised over £40k towards its £160k fundraising target.

In addition, Angela Higgins, fundraiser for the charity, is co-coordinating a volunteer logistics effort to ensure that PPE is distributed throughout Scotland to frontline staff and is calling for volunteers to get in touch.

Whatever you can give, nothing is too small and 100% of money donated goes directly to getting the necessary PPE to our invaluable community frontline staff. £15 buys a gown and a mask and £100 protects six medical staff a day. Please donate what you can here.

The donations have gone to St Luke’s Medical Practice in Carluke, Medwyn Medical Practice in Carnwath, Care and Repair in Lanark, which helps older people and those with disabilities live independent lives, and the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) based in Springburn, Glasgow.

Keith Gallacher, director of Complete Weed Control operations in the south-east and south-west of Scotland, said: “there has never been a time like the present and we us must all pull together to keep each other safe.

“The PPE equipment we use lets us undertake our important work with companies and local authorities throughout Scotland, but the pressing needs of health workers and those delivering vital services to vulnerable people must take priority now.”

  • Plans launched to overhaul Aberdeen Market

Plans to overhaul Aberdeen Market could be discussed at a council meeting at the end of this month.

Patrizia has submitted plans for the site, which would involve demolishing the building to make way for shops, cafes and office space.

The proposals led to objections from the traders currently operating from the site.

No decision has yet been made by the local authority on the application, however it is hoped to be discussed at the upcoming planning management committee.

Local authority meetings are currently postponed, with planning one of the few proposed to go ahead.
