Kier Group has appointed FirstGroup director Constance Baroudel to its board.

The construction to property company said Ms Baroudel, group director of strategy and operational performance at Aberdeen-based FirstGroup, will join as an independent director on July 1.

Ms Baroudel joined FirstGroup in March 2015, having held a range of senior management positions for De La Rue over 10 years.

CBES awarded Gold Medal from RoSPA

Glasgow-based construction & engineering firm CBES has been awarded a Gold Medal award from RoSPA in recognition of 9 consecutive Gold awards.

The award is part of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety awards which are in their 60th year.

While the majority of awards are non-competitive Gold Medal awards are presented to those organisations which sustain the high standards of gold level H&S over consecutive years.

The RoSPA Awards are celebrating 60 years of presenting highly-regarded and sought after accolades to businesses and organisations which have shown commitment to accident and ill-health prevention.

Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Lord Smith of Kelvin officially opens Boston Networks New Headquarters

Lord Smith of Kelvin has officially opened the new leading edge headquarters of Boston Networks, a Scottish technology company who design, deliver, manage and maintain multi-site, multi-service infrastructures to drive businesses and connect people, places and devices.

After a period of sustained growth following several major contract wins, including the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus, Boston Networks has relocated its company headquarters to a new purpose designed space in Braehead, near Glasgow.

The 8,000 sq. ft. space will provide employees and visitors with a spacious, dynamic, and collaborative environment in which to work, innovate and spend social time together.

Lord Smith, who chaired the organising committee for Glasgow 2014, is Chairman of the Green Investment Bank and Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

Accies development facing delays amid funding shortfall

The multi-million pound transformation of a historic Edinburgh sports ground has been delayed after bosses failed to secure the necessary funding.

The Raeburn Place Foundation (RPF) wants to redevelop the Edinburgh Accies’ ground in Stockbridge – the site of the world’s first international rugby union match between Scotland and England.

But construction work, which was due to start this summer, has now been pushed back until next May after club chiefs fell short of the money needed to start building.

Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall supergym set for opening

The date has been announced for the opening of the new super gym at the redeveloped Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.

It will open its doors to the public on August 22 as part of the first phase of the £35 million upgrade of the popular visitor attraction.

The Glasgow Club at Kelvin Hill will result in around one third of the building being brought back into use.

Major route in south Aberdeenshire to close for essential bridge repair works

Part of a major route between Laurencekirk and Marykirk will close for six weeks from Monday, July 11 to allow essential bridge works.

The A937 will be closed to all traffic at South Balmakelly for the £150,000 project.

The concrete bridge, which dates back to the 1930s, is no longer able to safely carry today’s traffic on this important primary route.

Local access to properties will be maintained at all times as the closure is in the immediate vicinity of the bridge only, but nearby roads will also be affected.

Two central reserve gaps on the A90 trunk road between Laurencekirk and the B974 junction at Crosspoles will be temporarily closed off during the works.

This is intended to prevent an increase in HGV and other traffic turning north onto the A90 at these minor “at grade” crossings during the road closure, in the interest of road safety.

Diversions are via the A92 coast road and the A935 via Brechin.

Advance warning signs will be placed at all the major junctions where drivers have to make decisions about their routes.
