  • James Donaldson and Sons announces charity partnership with Maggie’s

Timber firm James Donaldson & Sons has announced a charity partnership with Maggie’s due to span over the next twelve to eighteen months.

The firm has pledged to match funds up to £25,000, raised by employees across their 30 sites UK wide, setting an ambitious goal of raising a total of £50,000. The group will be working closely with Maggie’s to develop a calendar of fundraising events and activities nationwide to engage with over 800 employees.



Maggie’s is a charity offering free practical and emotional support for people with cancer and their family and friends through support centres built in the grounds of NHS hospitals. Maggie’s relies on voluntary donations to support and grow its network of Centres and to develop its unique, high-quality programme of support. The charity is open to anyone and aims to make the most significant difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.

The fundraising campaign will launch at James Donaldson and Sons’ sites locally throughout June.

 

  • Bumper charity golf effort delivers boost for Macmillan cancer charity

Four friends from Renfrewshire have delivered a bumper cash boost for charity after a gruelling day of golf.

The awesome foursome spent an entire day golfing - teeing off at 5.30 am before finishing at 8.30 pm that evening.

Stephen Laird who works for construction firm CGC in Paisley as a quantity surveyor was joined by Bryan Robertson, Alan Wells and Michael Easdon.

They played four rounds of golf at two Renfrewshire clubs – Elderslie and Paisley battling the weather and golfing through rainstorms and wind.



The four of them have now raised a magnificent £1500 – easily surpassing their target of £1000.

The charity effort known as the ‘Longest Day Golf Challenge’ is an important fundraising event from the inspiring charity which does so much to help people fighting cancer.

Golfers around the country took part in the fundraising drive on or around June 21 for Macmillan Cancer Support.



Across all 72 holes it is estimated players walk around 20 miles. Since 2002 golfers have raised a staggering £10 million.  

 

  • Traditional building skills highlighted at Royal Highland Show

A traditional building skills demonstration took place at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

Activities included roof slating by National Federation of Roofing Contractors and stonemasonry by Stone Federation GB.

The event is part of Construction Scotland’s Inspiring Construction programme and built on the successes of the programme across Scotland which aims to promote construction as a career of choice.

Over 560 mini-masterclasses in the trades were delivered throughout the show with a very positive response from all those who participated.

This event built on the success of the other Inspiring Construction events which the Scottish Traditional Building Forum has delivered or been involved with this year outside Edinburgh City Chambers, STEM at The Helix and outside the Scottish Parliament.
