TUV SUD Real Estate now at the vanguard of BIM

TUV SUD Real Estate has achieved BIM Level 2 Certification from the British Standards Institute for the delivery of BIM Level 2 project information across our 14 regional offices in compliance with PAS1192.

This is the standard that was developed by the UK BIM Task Group and is designed to provide standardisation for Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the UK.

The UK government mandate introduced BIM in April 2016 as a means of cutting overall construction costs by up to 33% through reducing in-efficiencies in the construction process.

To remain in the vanguard of industry developments TUV SUD Real Estate recruited an experienced BIM Manager to lead the development of our BIM strategy and implementation of Building Information Modelling, standardising digital engineering across the business.

Obtaining certification provides our customers with confidence and peace of mind that we have the competence, necessary processes, procedures and documentation in place to successfully deliver BIM Level 2 projects in compliance with PAS1192.

TUV SUD Real Estate has 25 dedicated BIM technicians and 30 Engineers currently trained in BIM Level 2 and we have a continuous training programme in place. Only a limited number of Consultancies in the UK have acquired BIM Level 2 certification from the British Standards Institute.

Students from Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help promote their work to an international audience in London.

The 57°10 student architecture society is hoping to raise enough money to host an exhibition in the capital city, ‘Critically North’, which will allow the School the opportunity to present a selection of graduate work to industry professionals.

57°10 is a student-run architecture lecture society, run on a volunteer basis by master students Ross Cowie and Ross Robinson.

The society has been running for over 28 years and regularly invites guest lecturers to the school to talk about the ideas and projects explored by their practices. Some of the previous guests include renowned architects such as Andreas Deplazes, Snøhetta and Zaha Hadid.

The exhibition, which will be the first of its kind that the School has hosted outside of the North-east, will be curated and run by six volunteer master students in their graduating year of studies.

More information on the 57°10 society and crowdfunding campaign can be found here.

TAYplan University of Dundee youth camp

Dozens of young people from all over Tayside and North Fife have gathered in Dundee to learn more about how places can change and the ways they can influence the process.

Pupils from seven secondary schools across the TAYplan area were taking part in a one day Youth Camp at Dundee University.

The event gave them the chance to think about where they live, study and work by taking part in a number of workshops as well as an opportunity to consider a career in planning.

Planning matters such as design, accessibility and climate change formed part of the afternoon session when the young people working in their school groups developed a “sustainable place”.

Will Dawson, convener of Dundee City Council’s development management committee, Helen O’Connor, head of Dundee University’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning and Dundee City Council’s development plans service manager, Gordon Reid, pored over the entries to select a winner at the end of the event.

TAYplan and its four constituent local authorities will use the conclusions of the day to help inform future local and strategic development plans.

Set up in 2008 TAYplan provides the strategy for the location of major development in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North Fife areas.

It submitted its latest Proposed Strategic Development Plan to Scottish Ministers in June last year.
