Taking place at one of Scotland’s finest inland courses, the competition is open to talented girls and boys under the age of 18 and is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event.

John Horne, managing director for The JR Group, said: “As a business The JR Group works hard to promote sport for young people across a number of disciplines. We are delighted therefore, to become the main sponsor for the upcoming Junior Masters at Pollok Golf Club.

“Pollok Golf Club work very hard to support young players to hone their talent in the sport and provide them with opportunities to progress, something we are thrilled to back through this summer’s competition.

“We have some fantastic young players coming through in Scotland who will hopefully go onto achieve great things as future internationalists, or even professionals in the sport. Our sponsorship supports the endeavours of Pollok Golf Club to give those players the best opportunity to fulfil their potential.”

  • Summer opening for Ravenscraig public park

The new public park being created at Ravenscraig is on schedule to open in time for the school summer holidays.

The £3.7 million park is being built by North Lanarkshire Council, as part of its plans to regenerate the former steelworks site.

It will include a play area, sensory garden, visitor hub with a disabled toilet and a cafe, events area, a network of walking and cycling routes, a multi sports pitch and an outdoor gym. A feature path will be created along the line of the historic steel strip mill, and seating areas will be located throughout the park.

The play area will have climbing walls, swings, trampolines, bouncing discs, a climbing tower, zip slide, talk tubes, balance beams and posts, incorporating accessible facilities for children and young people with mobility issues.

Local school pupils and community groups have been invited to choose the name of the new park and the play area within it, and this will be announced before the park opens in July.

Funding for the park project has come from the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Fund and the council.

  • Empty Glasgow shop to be used by theatre school

Glasgow City Council has approved a plan to change empty retail premises into a theatre school.

Theatre School of Scotland’s application will see 41 Stockwell Place divided into four studios, three singing rooms as well as a reception area and ancillary facilities.

A statement submitted to the city council argued: “Given its location and amount of floor space to be given over to the proposed use, [the proposal] would not have a significant impact upon the range of shopping and retail facilities in the city centre.”
