The Awards are part of the BCO’s NextGen programme, which sets out to mentor and encourage the next generation of property professionals to become future leaders in the industry, whilst providing a platform for new talent to share ideas.

The country’s top designers, developers, architects and occupiers under the age of 35 were invited to join the BCO for the awards ceremony, which took place virtually for the first time this year. It celebrated the achievements and successes of young professionals in the commercial property sector across the UK, and the individuals who mentored them.

The BCO NextGen Rising Star award recognises an under 35’s outstanding contribution to the office sector in their region. David, who at age 31 is Cooper Cromar’s youngest individual to ever hold the position of Associate Director in the firm’s history, was crowned Scotland’s Rising Star by a panel of local judges.

The judges were impressed by David’s dedication to learning and development which has seen him rise through the ranks at Cooper Cromar with natural ease and charisma. He has recently taken on the Project Associate role for one of the practice’s biggest and most complex projects, a new European Headquarters in Glasgow for a major financial institution.

After working across a number of sectors in his early years with the firm, David soon gravitated towards the Commercial Office practice after receiving his RIBA Part 3 qualification. He quickly established himself as a natural team leader, supporting peers through their own qualifications while challenging teams day-to-day to work across cross-functional teams to deliver the best outcomes for clients.

  • £1.17m of town centre improvement projects in Aberdeenshire shown the green light

Nine Aberdeenshire projects aimed at driving local economic activity and stimulating town centre recovery are to share £1.17 million in funding.

Earlier this year the Scottish Government announced an £18m capital injection into the Town Centre Fund (TCF) for investment in 2020-21.

Criteria included the deliverability of the project, sustainability and transformation to key town centres within Aberdeenshire.

The Aberdeenshire Town Centre panel looked for projects which would stimulate and support a wide range of investments to support economic recovery across the region.

The successful Aberdeenshire projects are a town centre enhancement scheme in Aboyne, public realm improvements in Fraserburgh, a community garden in Stonehaven, town centre improvements in Ballater, redevelopment of a property in Fraserburgh, creation of a community garden in Peterhead, redevelopment of the V&A halls in Ballater and a youth room for the MACBI centre in Mintlaw.

  • Bids welcome from projects in Sutherland for Town Centre Fund investment

Sutherland County Committee is inviting bids from projects in Brora, Dornoch and Golspie for Town Centre Fund investment with proposals to be submitted by 9am on 30 November 2020.

This invitation follows the announcement made on November 4 at the Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee that extra funding has been made available from The Scottish Government to boost town centres across the region. It was agreed that decisions on spend would be taken at area committee level of which Sutherland has been allocated a grant of £84,156 to invest.

The grant can be spent on council, public, community-based or private sector projects in the town centres of Brora, Dornoch or Golspie. Social enterprises or community organisations will be eligible if they are companies limited by guarantee/shares.

As decided by the Scottish Government, the grant must be for physical projects which means only certain types of projects can be funded. For example, the spending must be of a “one-off” nature and result in the construction or improvement of an asset such as a building or an area of land.

Prospective project sponsors are encouraged to learn more and can complete a form available on the council website to return to regeneration@highland.gov.uk as soon as possible, but no later than 9am on 30 November.

Proposals will be considered at a special meeting of the Committee on 14 December 2020.
